Why this exercise? To be able to determine the cost of capital for your company, the cost associate with each form of financing used by the company needs to be determined. This exercise focuses on bond valuation and yield to maturity (YTM).The YTM on a company bonds helps determine the company's cost of debt. The cost of capital will be covered in chapter 10. The cost of capital is a key input in capital expenditure decisions.

Instructions: Go to the Morningstar site at finra-markets.morningstar.com/BondCenter. Click on the "Search" tab in the middle of the screen. Search for your company by entering either the company's name or ticker symbol in the appropriate space provided. After you hit return, a list of your company's bonds outstanding will appear. You may notice that some bonds don't have yield information. Do not focus on those. This indicates that there have been no bond trades for the bond in some time. Find the longest maturity bond that has trading activity with yield information.Use the information associated with this bond to respond to the items below. Please note, there may be a couple of screens with company bond data that you may need to look through.
