Question:
This assignment provides you the opportunity to make a Data Flow Diagram based on a narrative.
NARRATIVE:
The purpose of the Give Me a Break Insurance system is to find the lowest-cost automotive insurance solution for car owners. The following narrative gives you a description of the system:
A customer fills out an insurance application. A driver’s traffic record is requested and received from the local
police department.
Vehicle registration is requested and received from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
From time to time, proposed policies are sent in by various insurance companies. These policies outline what the insurance company will charge for each risk profile.
The agent reviews the policies in order to select the best policy for the type and level of coverage desired by the customer and then creates an insurance policy proposal and quote which is sent to the customer If the customer accepts the quote, he or she pays the initial premium and the system sends back an insurance coverage statement (a card to be carried at all times when driving a vehicle).
A customer confirmation is also sent to the insurance company. At this time a new customer record is created.
REQUIREMENTS:
For the case narrative, the following should be created using any Diagram Editor or software:
1. Context Level DFD
2. Level 0 DFD
3. one Level 1 DFD for one of the processes in the level 0 DFD
4. Any assumptions you have made.
ASSESSMENT:
Context DFD – Are all the external entities correctly named? Are all the data flows properly located and described? Is the model laid out cleanly with a title block naming the chart, customer, author, and date? [10
points]
Level 0 DFD – Are all external entities and data flows properly transferred from the context DFD? Are all new data flows properly located and described? Are all data stores properly identified and described? Is the model laid out cleanly with a title block naming the chart, customer, author, and date? [20 points]
Level 1 DFD – Are all external entities and data flows properly transferred from the level 0 DFD? Are all new data flows properly located and described? Are all new data stores properly identified? Is the model laid out cleanly with a title block naming the chart, customer, author, and date? [10 points]
Definitions / Assumptions – Are all data flows and data stores well defined and explained? Are all assumptions listed? [5 points]
SUBMISSION:
It must be submitted using BlackBoard before the due date and time.
