As the newest database design expert at Data Base Consultants (DBC), you have been assigned to create a database design for Legal Eagles to manage their office. Design information As the database expert for Database Managers Company, you have been assigned to create a database for the Legal Eagles Law Office to manage their time, billing, and client records. You have interviewed each person in the office and have gathered the following information 1. Legal Eagles has several lawyers. 2. Each lawyer may have several legal specialties (e g., corporate law, criminal law, real estate, probate, bill collection, etc.). 3. Each lawyer has a different rate at which his or her time is billed. 4. The billing rate for a lawyer is fixed and does not vary by the legal specialty required. 5. Each lawyer has a different annual base salary, which is not related to billing rate. 6. Client data is maintained for mailing lists and billing purposes with a company or personal name, address, contact persons, and telephone numbers 7. A client may have several different contact persons for each case, and each person may have several telephone numbers (telephone, fax, pager, etc.). 8. Clients may request a lawyer by name, or they may ask for a specialty and then be assigned to a primary lawyer for a given case. 9. A case number is assigned for each case with a beginning date, a description of the case, and a required completion date. 10. A client may have several open cases at the same time. 11. A case is assigned to a primary lawyer who will oversee the case throughout its life. 12. When the case is completed, it will be given a closing date and a final total cost. 13. A lawyer can only bill against an open case. 14. A lawyer keeps a daily log of the time spent on each case with the total hours spent along with a description of the work done. [Note: lawyers make one entry per day for each case]. 15. Several lawyers may work on any given case, and a client may have several cases open at any time. 16. At any given time, a lawyer may be working on several cases for the same client or on cases for several different clients. 17. Clients are billed monthly. 18. A bill for a client shows all open cases with an itemized list of the time each lawyer has spent on the case. The itemized listing consists of the date, time spent, a short description of the purpose for that time, a billing rate for the time spent, and an extended total for that item. 19. Legal Eagles also maintains an appointment calendar for each lawyer 20. The appointment calendar contains the date, start time, duration, purpose of the appointment, and the name of the client. 21. A lawyer does not have to have an appointment with a client to have it listed in the appointment calendar (e.g., lunch, court, golf, etc.)
