This assignment requires you to evaluate an organization with which you have familiarity (current/prior job, part time work, or even a volunteer role). You will use this organization and its processes for many of the upcoming homework assignments.

Part I

1. Briefly describe the organization selected.

2. Then use at least two of Demings Fourteen Points from the lecture to evaluate your organization/work unit.

3. Finally, describe how Jurans Trilogy could be used with the organization you have chosen to drive change.

Part II

1. Using the following questions as a guide, document the key processes within the organization where you work or one you are familiar with:

• Which products and services are most important to the customer(s)?

• What are the processes that produce these products & services?

• What are the key ingredients (events, findings, results etc.) that stimulate action in the organization?

• Which processes have the most visibility with customers?

• Which processes have the greatest impact on key performance indicators?

Be sure your homework includes the answers to each and all of these five questions.

2. From the information and list of key processes in question #1, develop a high level systems diagram to show how they are inter-related. You may refer to the systems flow diagrams for ISO 9000 and the Baldrige National Quality Program for guidance, but the diagram you develop should be unique to the organization you have chosen.
