Part $1$:

Feldstein & Melnick $(2022)$ suggest that, in general, the national health insurance plans that have been proposed can be classified into three broad categories:

$1)$ a single$-$payer $($Canadian$)$ system or an expansion of existing public programs;

$2)$ employer$-$mandated health insurance with an individual mandate; and,

$3)$ income$-$related tax credits.

Which one of these proposals would you support above the others? Give a rationale for this support. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the one you choose? Be specific. Use the criteria for evaluating national health insurance proposals in your response.

For the second part of your discussion, address the following question: If society does not have an infinite amount of money to spend on extending each person's life, what is the impact of spending additional resources to extend one life on remaining resources?
