This process has aided me in identifying strengths and weaknesses in proposals, improving my ability to critically evaluate my own work. It has given me insights into structuring arguments, clearly stating research questions and hypotheses, and anticipating potential issues in study design. In addition, it has enhanced my ability to provide constructive feedback, a crucial skill in academic collaboration. Furthermore, constructive dialogue is where both the giver and receiver participate in mutual learning. This dynamic is essential to the peer review system, as feedback serves as the cornerstone of scholarly progress and integrity (Lim & Bowman, 2024).
To strengthen my approach to sampling and analysis, I would consider several strategies. First, increasing the sample size is a way to ensure that the study has enough power to detect significant differences between groups. Conducting a power analysis can help determine the appropriate sample size needed to achieve reliable results (Serdar et al., 2021). In addition, it is also important to enhance randomization by clearly defining the process, which will ensure that the groups are equivalent at baseline. This could include using a computer-generated randomization sequence. Furthermore, using strong statistical methods is vital; selecting appropriate tests that consider the distribution of the data, the nature of the variables, and the study design will provide more accurate results (Ranganathan, 2021).
In my study, potential ethical dilemmas include ensuring informed consent, particularly for older adults with varying cognitive abilities. Obtaining truly informed consent may be challenging for those with mild cognitive impairments. In addition, there are concerns about the vulnerability of this population, emphasizing the need to ensure that participation is voluntary and that residents can withdraw without negative consequences. Confidentiality and data privacy are also critical, especially in a close-knit environment like an assisted living facility. Ensuring that data is anonymized and securely stored, particularly with the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices, is essential. Finally, while CGM devices are generally safe, there could be risks such as skin irritation or anxiety, so participants must be fully informed of any potential downsides.
