This is a discussion assignment with two parts.
Part A
- For this exercise, you will be challenged to use your knowledge of the steps in the decision-making process. Select something in your experience for which a critical decision was needed. The process you analyze could be something related to your job, or you may select something from your non-professional life. For example, you may want to describe the process for planning a long trip, possibly out of the country, or the planning of a move from one home to another, which can be complicated. All of these require the application of the steps in the decision process. You may use a decision process in which you did not participate in, but you must know the details in order to adequately outline the process in your discussion post. Whatever you choose should be a major decision (college selection, international trip and best value for money, which job offer to take, which house to buy, which automobile to purchase, etc.) and not minor (what movie to see tonight, what shall I have for dinner, etc.) in nature. The 7-step decision process is on Page 126, Figure 5.3. Clearly state the decision that needs to be made. Starting with step one, analyze how closely your process parallels the Decision Making Process steps from the text.
- Post your analysis to the Managerial Decision Making discussion forum.
Part B
- Read the posts from your classmates and respond to two with an analysis of their decision-making process. Analyze the flow of their decision process and comment on their thinking. Ask questions for clarification if necessary.
- When someone comments on your entry, respond to their comments by accepting suggestions that are appropriate, or providing a rebuttal when appropriate.
