The question to the post is as follows:

Address the following questions regarding procurement management and project management.

  • Are both a project manager and a procurement manager needed to administer a project? Why or why not?
  • If you were the project manager, how would you work with a procurement manager to ensure a successful project?

I don't think it is necessary for there to be a project manager and a procurement manager facilitating a singular project unless the project manager is a novice. Acquiring resources and negotiating contracts should be specific skills the project manager should have acquired throughout their career. But if the organization wanted to lower the workload for the project manager and have the funds to hire a procurement manager, I don't think it would cause any conflict for the daily operations.

Working with a procurement manager would be a simple task, I would focus on the daily operations and tasks getting completed on the job site, and the procurement manager could focus on building relationships and sourcing vendors for the project.
