This is an assignment where student groups should do a little self-directed research and design relevant answers to the assignment questions, and produce a smaller paper with their answers. For this assignment, students work as consultants for a small bike repair shop and work on designing their recommendation of how the bike repair shop should setup a new information system. Mini-case - Bike Repair Shop Et The Bike Repair Shop is one separate facility which is owned by an owner that also runs the adjacent Bike Showroom Shop. The bike repair shop setup is similar to Cycleology (Dana Point) and other bike shops with a separate repair service facility. The repair shop has 6 fulltime employees where one of them is a Senior Repair Mechanic who has the overall responsibility for the facility. They also employ a couple of temporary/part time helpers that are brought in to help during demand peaks. They service 120+ bikes per month which includes smaller repairs (tire/tube changes, mounting of new break pads), larger repairs (Brake change, gear change, suspension change, wheel truing), and bike building (wheels, full bikes, custom bikes). In the adjacent Bike Showroom Shop new bikes, accessories, and spare parts are sold. The Bike Repair Shop only deals with bike repairs and bike building. The existing operational process starts with a call from a customer, followed by a bike drop-off and a brief initial discussion of repair needs. Then a bike mechanic starts on the bike repair and does the initial diagnostics. If spare parts are needed, an inventory check is done whether the needed spare parts are in the spare parts inventory or not. If not, the relevant spare parts are ordered online and the bike is placed in temporary storage room. When new spare parts arrive, the bike is retrieved, the repair is completed, the cost of the repair is calculated, and the customer is notified by phone that the bike is ready and the price. The customer then shows up, pay for the bike by Card/Cash/Check/Venmo/Zelle, and the bike leaves the shop. Once per month the Senior Mechanic summarize the sales, purchases/cost and calculates the operating profit. Students are welcome to make assumptions about the business, customers, and situation to complete the assignment as long as important assumptions are stated in the paper
