Creative work demands both a passionate interest on the part of the thinker and a certain degree of detachment from the work and ideas. Creative thinking, however, does not appear to occur where the individuals interest in the subject matter is relatively low. There seems to be a delicate balance whereby the creative thinker has to remain sufficiently detached from the work. Byrne et al. (2009) argue that creative work can occur in any job that involves a particular kind of task. It is generally accepted that the creative problem solving process can be broken down into six stages. Each of these stages involves activities that require first divergent thinking and then convergent thinking.
