This is the complete outline

You can attach your Front Matter, Outline, and APA list of References section all in one document. You start your speech with your Attention getter narrative and you do not say your Reference list.

You write your speech in the following order, then you rearrange the speech into the below template.

1. Audience Analysis

2. Topic

3. Speech Objectives: General Purpose, Specific Purpose, and Proposition

4. Conduct Research

5. Write Body of Speech (Problem/Need, Solution/Satisfaction, Visualization Steps)

6. Write Introduction of Speech (Attention Step)

7. Write Conclusion of Speech (Action Step)

8. Prepare you List of References

Simply copy the template below, paste it into a WORD document leaving everything bold. Then, turn off bold and fill in your content.

In each main point of the body, I wrote the words "Evidence." Here you give a fact from a source to support your claim--the main point. The evidence is to be proceeded by or followed by the word, "According to..." After the evidence, you give a personal narrative or example of your evidence. Something you did, witnessed, read about, learned in a speech, learned in from a professor, or watched a film or documentary,

Also, add an APA References section double spaced down from the last line of your Call to Action. I gave you the rules to APA References, you can also find a "cheat sheet" in the library or get the APA Documentation Style Hand book. It is in the Library.

You can also "Google" APA Documentation Style. The first thing that comes up is Purdue OWL. It is currently up to date and you can find how to list your source by going down the column on the left and clicking on the type of source you have. I also have an example at the end of this template outline.

Read your outline out loud to be sure it makes sense. You will have to cite three times in your speech to your classmates using the phrase, "according to...."

All the bold terms should be on your outline. These make up the "Template." The bold words, you say in your speech, the bold words that are in Italics, you do not say in your speech.

Front Matter is part of the outline, but not part of the speech. It goes on the outline. It only prepares you to write the outline. You don't say any part of the Front Matter in your speech except for Proposition of Policy at appropriate time. You start your speech with your Attention step narrative.

However, you do include the Front Matter with the formal outline. It's just not used in your speech. Front matter is a graded part of the outline. Make sure you correct any errors from the Persuasive Front Matter Assignment for a better grade.

Your Speech starts with (Attention Getter)

Audience Analysis:

Topic: Home Ownership

General Purpose: To Persuade

Specific Purpose: After listening to my presentation, the audience will be persuaded to buy a house.

Proposition of Policy: You should buy a house.

Introduction

I.(Attention Step):Pay for college story

Transition:As a college student, we all face different challenges

Body

I.(Need Step or Problem Step): Not knowing how to pay for college is a major challenge to attending college to secure our future.

  • (Evidence): According to a survey by Harvard University, most students will say that the cost of school, tuition and books are the biggest obstacle to attending college. This will stop many people in their tracks when it comes to attending college.
  • (Describe):Let's face it, the cost of college is high; however, the cost of not going to college is way higher.
  • (Evidence): According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, those aren't the biggest expenses. Living expenses (room and board) are even a bigger expense. You have rent, utilities, groceries, cell phone, and many other expenses
  • (Describe): Think about going to school without these expenses.

Transition: How can we attend college without these expenses?

II. (Satisfaction Step or Solution Step): Buy a house.

  • (Evidence): According to the Seattle Times last July edition, You rent out the other bedrooms.
  • Describe):You can buy a house close to campus with 3 or 4 bedrooms.
  • (Evidence): According to Zillow.com, you can put two people in each bedroom at $750.00 per month.
  • (Describe): That gives you over $3700.00 per month and the house payment is $1000.00 to $1200.00.
  • (Transition to Reservation): I know what you might be thinking
  • (Describe Reservation): Buying a house won't work for me.
  • (Describe Reservation with Refutation): Some might say, "My parents pay my living expenses." So this isn't for me. Yes, it is, have them buy the house. They will be happy to save the money they are spending on you for school.
  • (Describe Reservation with Refutation): Other's might say, I don't have credit to buy a house, who would loan me money. This could be a problem and might not work for you. If you can find a motivated buyer or maybe even consider a manufactured home or mobile home, you might find a way to get real estate that can bring you an income stream.

Transition: Picture this,

III. (Visualization Step): You have your own place.

  • (Describe):Finals are over (story).
  • (Describe): You walk home with a bounce to your step.
  • (Describe):Your roommates have the party going (Describe the fun of the party in detail).

Conclusion

I. (Action Step)

Proposition of Policy: You should buy a house

A. (How and Where Can One Get the Solution): Go see George Marinovich at Campus View Homes in Wedgewood Village or call George at (888) 555-4321.

B.("The Magic Formula" a Call for action and Tie down): I urge you to (Action): buy a house today from George because if you do, you will (Benefit): graduate college debt free and an extra $5,000.00 in your bank account.
