Value Stream Mapping for manufacturing or service processes is used for documenting, analyzing and improving the flow of information for the production of a product or a service. Companies will utilize value stream mapping to minimize and eliminate waste, provide optimum value to customers, try to keep products cost low and quality high, and ensure efficacy in production. A company will measure improvement in such processes by determining the value of processes from the view of the consumer, identifying the value stream for each product, creating the product flow, and managing towards perfection. IN doing so the company can better understand the start and the finish and have the capability to determine improvement along the way (Jacobs and Chase, 2013).
