This will help you to realize the usage and applications of inventory management concepts and tools in the real word. Find a local company willing to collaborate with you, and describe their inventory management system. Following points should be included in your report: Company overview - Company name - Field or industry - Description of the business Contact person - Name - Position - Contact information Inventory management systems description - Describe companys inventory management policy and try to include as much as you can of the concepts, tools, and techniques you have learned during this course. To do so, you may try to answer the following questions: o Which approach they use? (dependent or independent demand approach) o How they decide regarding how much to order and when to order? o Howtheycalculateinventoryholdingcost?(whichcomponentsareincluded) o How they calculate inventory reordering cost? (which components are included) o How they calculate shortage (stock out) cost? (which components are included) o Howinventorymanagementdecisionsinteractwithotherfieldsandfunctions in the organization. o Which type of tradeoff they made (e.g. transportation vs. inventory holding cost. o Which tools are employed (e.g. VMI, JIT, MRP, etc.) - Using photos or videos would be a plus. - For your analysis, you can use one item/product or many items/products. Your comments - Describe the similarities and differences between what you have learned and what you have seen in the company. - Mention some specific suggestions to improve the case you have described.
Deadline Reports should be submitted by December 31, 2020. Late submission will affect your evaluation significantly. Evaluation Following points will affect your evaluation (out of 20 marks): - The organization of the document you will submit. - Adherence to the content proposed below. - The concepts you have used (you have to use proper technical language to describe your case). - The quality of your suggestions to improve the case you have described. - The depth of your understanding of the case you have analyzed (this can be evaluated through an oral examination). Contents - Title page (include students and companys names, in addition to the contact person and contact information) - Abstract - Keywords (concepts related to inventory management that you have investigated in the company and described in your report) - Brief about the company and its field or industry - Methodology (the methods ways you have used to accomplish your task, e.g. interviews, surveys, etc.) - Inventory management description (the body of your report) - Your opinion, comments, and suggestions to improve. Guidelines - Send Word document only. - You can work on the report individually or in pairs (in this case describe the role of each student in details in an additional section in the report). Students in the same group might be evaluated differently based on their contributions. - Read this document thoroughly before asking any questions about the report.
