Project Description For your final project, you are to choose two publicly traded companies in the same business or industry. The firms can be either peers or in a vertical alignment (Apple and IBM or Apple and Intel as examples). As an essential component to your corporate finance expertise, you are to conduct an analysis of the financial statements of each firm and, provide some backgrounds on each firm and, the industry/economy in which they operate. To support your analysis, you need to examine a variety of sources, including: the company profile, financial statements, managerial makeup, accounting statement footnotes, major market competitors and the economy in which these firms are operating. A central part of your evaluation will be a ratio analysis of each firm using balance sheet and income statements for the most recent (annual or quarterly) period. Be certain that both firms are assessed using a 'same period' (same year or same quarter) analysis...your analysis will largely flow from this information. Also, note that financial statements used are to be included as appendices to your final project paper submission (may be a separate attachment[s] or included to the paper.) Note that the 'paper size' to this project does not include attachments nor appendices...'body only' is included in the page count towards the project. Project Objectives: 1) Analyze financial statements of two publicly traded companies and make informed decisions about their respective financial positions. 2) Consider the global financial environments and any accounting/regulatory impacts that may affect either/both firm(s). 3) Evaluate each firms strengths and weaknesses based on the analysis of its financial statements. Analyze the impact of management performance on financial management and, to identify, assess risk. 4) Analyze what occurs within high levels of uncertainty, or when data are unavailable or unclear, especially in a global context. Evaluate data for completeness and accuracy. Project Components: 1.Firm Selections/Backgrounds... 2.Bibliography........................ 3.Final Project Paper.................
