This project will configure (set up) the system and supply the mobile computers to each of the investigators needed to process investigations. It will include an ongoing training program for new investigators and refresher sources for regular users. The project team will evaluate the various commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products that are available to provide this functionality as opposed to building the system ourselves, and will come up with a direction. It is expected the necessary hardware will need to be updated or replaced every three years, and integrated with the department's IT infrastructure. There is also likely to be a cost for broadband use. The budget for the project is $280,000; this does not include ongoing maintenance, training, hardware and software updates. As for the investigations themselves, this will affect many businesses in the Commonwealth as the investigators go out, although the investigative processes, information collected and volume of citations will remain the same.
