This research was conducted by using qualitative methods including interviews, participant-observation and narratives. We aimed to explore the negative impacts that labour standards have on nurses in the contemporary Caribbean. After carefully reviewing the types of sampling methods in qualitative studies, purposive sampling was chosen as this type of sampling is often used in qualitative research, being that it allows the researcher to gather in-depth information from individuals who have first-hand experience of the phenomenon being studied (Hassan,2023). Hence, a sample of four nurses volunteered to take part of this research, in an effort for us to gather a better understanding of the negative effects of labour standards on nurses in Jamaica. The proposed cite for this research is the Kingston Public Hospital and The University Hospital of the West Indies. The setting of this research includes both structured interviews over the phone and participant observation at the above mentioned hospitals during guest visiting hours. Observations were done for one hour and phone interviews were done in a time frame of fifteen minutes per participant. The interviews were recorded with the permission of the participants and transcribed for analysis. The study was conducted via a cross-sectional approach being that observations and interviews were done at a single point in time. Lastly, narrative data analysis was used to analyse the data collected in this study. This approach allowed for the exploration of the stories and experiences of the participants. The analysis of the data involved identifying themes and patterns that emerged from the interviews and observations
