The law (both crime and civil law) is narrower.Eg, crime of murder (limited defences - insanity) manslaughter (some more defences like intoxication;assault.Compare theseto the more general moral of 'don't hit people - sometimes qualified by 'unless they deserve it'.

There is also a civil law of defamation - compare this to the moral of 'don't lie' which is broader (because you do not have to show that it damaged your reputation).How do these morals end up creating law?

The law is not always right - how does society manage this?They don't report it.

What then, are ethics - a higher standard than morals and broader than the law - why?
