This week I'd like to speculate on such ethical topic as greenwashing fashion. Actually, it is not the news that recently there has appeared a great deal of brands naming themselves "eco", even in the world of clothes. I was stunned to learn that "fashion is responsible for between 2% and 8% of global carbon emissions, as well as causing waste and pollution. About 300,000 tonnes of used clothes are burned or buried in landfill each year in the UK." However, this field is not so investigated and companies feel almost free to slap green claims on their products. Meanwhile these firms are supposed to prove that every bit of the product from its production through to disposal isn't harmful for the environment. Although, as a rule, there is no proof, only beautiful words, that customers fall for. The company and Markets Authority (CMA) is bothered by the amount of so-called eco-friendly companies. According to their research 60% of consumers don't mind paying more for "sustainable" product, so the companies will raise approximately 9% more money than selling ordinary goods. Parker Aranha, the CMA"s director of consumer protection stated: "We have taken the view that the growing consumer demand for green products and their willingness to pay for those green products has increased the incentive for business to be seen to be green. whether or not they actually are green". The CMA is going to name the worst offenders and give such companies a chance to change for the better. In case they don't, they could be taken to court.

I wonder if you are sceptical about greenwashing companies, their conduct and true motives. Do you agree that greenwashing isn't the area that interests regulators for some reasons or something is likely to change in the future?
