This week it will be highly important that you understand the ruling in both Goss v Lopez and Ingraham v Wright. The two cases help you see how a court analyzes due process concerns. A court first looks to see if there is a liberty or property interest that will be taken away by the government. That is where Ingraham fails. If there is no liberty or property interestbeing taken away then the Constitutiondoes not require due process. If there is a liberty or property interest being taken away then due process is required. If due process is required then the next question are what steps must be taken to satisfy the requirements of due process. These requirements change given themagnitude of the liberty or property interest that is being taken away.

To help understand answer the following questions about the two cases we are reading for this week. One what was the punishment the school gave in each case. Did the Court require due process in each case? If the case required due process why was it required? IF the case did not require due process why not? Lastly, If due process was required what due process steps did the Court require? In the old platform I would provide a chart to answer these questions
