Question:
This week we are going to use the Motivation theories in practice and apply them to your work in the analysis and design of a job. For this exercise, you can use your current or former role that you have had within an organization. If you haven’t had much work experience, this is a great opportunity to ‘phone a friend’ and interview a friend or family member about their job.
First, provide a BRIEF overview of the description of the job – you may have a formal job description or can summarize the type of job, what work entails, responsibilities, etc.
Then analyze the job using the Job Characteristics Model. Tie that into your motivation, satisfaction, and overall effectiveness. Using the methods outlined in the text or other materials, what would you change about the job or organizational practices to increase any of these areas? As part of this, be sure to reflect on one of the Motivation theories– what needs do you have and how does this work align (or not) with those? How does this impact your performance? (this section should be the main emphasis for your paper)
What Financial Reward Practices are utilized? How effective are these? What, if anything would you change?
Finally, how are goals set for your work? How do you receive feedback on those?
You should use and cite materials from the textbook or other peer-reviewed resources in your analysis and recommendations.
