This week we focused on reactive, defensive, accommodative, or even proactive approaches to supply chain sustainability. As well we

learned about security competencies for supply chains and how they can be viewed from a global supply chain perspective. I wanted to

spend this second discussion post focusing on technology and its areas of security in a global supply chain and the benefits of developing.

competencies to take a proactive approach to maintaining sustainability. With technology constantly evolving mostly for the benefit of

supply chains it also comes with added risks to sustainability and upkeep. Things such as data collection and storage, governance, and third$-$

party risk can become large problems in a supply chain and drive interruption if not for the development of security competencies. Data

comprises key information that is used in action$-$based decision$-$making for a supply chain while also providing information on orders,

consumers, and shipping requirements. Data requires both storage and access but must be protected and accessed in ways that are

beneficial to the organization, suppliers, and consumers. With data there also needs to be forms of governance that dictate how data is

handled, dispersed, and used for supply chain management. Lastly, third$-$party risk requires security competencies within technology because as

supply chains grow there is more reliance on forming partnerships with other suppliers to meet demand. With this typically there is an

enterprise system that is used to flow information back and forth between organizations. If left unattended there could be security breaches in

place down the supply chain from mishandling of proprietary business information. While there are many complexities within technology and

the global supply chain and efforts to maintain sustainability there is equally just as many ways to develop proactive approaches to mitigate

some of these risks as much as possible. For instance, organizations can develop and build upon things such as communication management,

relationship management, and process strategy. By proactively employing training and bulletins regarding security concerns in technology

and handling this mitigates internal risks of security to sustainability. In partnership with communication, the formation of relationship

management up and down the supply chain will benefit security in technology to share expectations and find out the level of information

that should be shared that benefits the sustainability goals of all organizations involved. Lastly, a strong proactive approach to implement a process

strategy will add$-$in benefits of management awareness, actions plan to mitigate risk, and actions to identify early rising risks. Through growing

technology there is always new vulnerabilities to sustainability, there is numerous stories of these breaches about stolen information,

crashing organizations systems, and many more disruptions, all requiring consumption of resources and time. But focusing with a strategy and
