This week we will read and discuss articles that explore the application of positive psychology and explore its future as a field of study. For example, in the Matthews et al. (2006)article (Character Strengths and Virtues of Developing Military Leaders: An International Comparison), the concepts of character strength and virtues, as developed by Seligman and Peterson (2004), are applied to a unique population.
Your Task
Main Entry: Post a brief analysisof what you have learned from this week's readings and activities. Within the body of your post, clearly identify each segment of the required response in order to facilitate discussion development.
1. Self Exploration: Know Your 24: Go to the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths website (https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register). Register (it's free) then complete the 15-minute survey. Upon receive of the free feedback document you will have an opportunity to determine what your top five-character strengths are. Share your "Top 5" with us explain how you see them as your strengths. For example, relate how important they are for you in your life. Also, provide one example of how you could increase these strengths?
2. Capital: Look at Table 2 on p. 147 of the Luthans & Youssef (2004)article in this week's readings. Ten different "representative techniques" to manage Human, Social and Psychological Capital are listed there. Assess your current work organization/situation on any TWO of these. If you do not have a current paying job, you can either think about a past job or a current unpaid or volunteer job (such as homemaker or a volunteer service job). What does the organization do well, and/or what does it do poorly? Looking at this list, what thoughts do you have? What opportunities come to mind?
3. Developing Military Leaders: Your Takeaway: What topic, concept, or insight from the Matthews' (2006) article struck a chord? Why?
