I need to evaluate the stress states at points a and b I have seen similar questions but one thing I do not understand is that they do not consider the direct shear force applied to the pipe by the N force. I understand that the N force will generate a torsional shear, but will a direct shear force equal to the N force divided by the cross sectional area not also be present? Would it be possible to also draw the reaction diagrams to help explain this. Thank you!
