I need to evaluate the stress states at points a and b, I have seen similar questions but one thing I do not understand is that they do not consider the direct shear force applied to the pipe by the 1200N force. I understand that the 1200N force will generate a torsional shear, but will a direct shear force (equal to the 1200N force divided by the cross sectional area) not also be present? Would it be possible to also draw the reaction diagrams to help explain this. Thank you!
