Ultimate Value Upholstery (UVU) is a high-end upholstery firm that provides both upholstery service to furniture manufacturers
Question:
Ultimate Value Upholstery (UVU) is a high-end upholstery firm that provides both upholstery service to furniture manufacturers and reupholstery services to individuals. In addition to the owner, UVU employs 10 upholstery artists (UAs), and 16 laborers, 2 sales representatives, and 3 office staff. UVU has requested your help in designing a database to track its business processes. This project is to record the activities that surround completing a project for a furniture manufacturer.
One of the UAs receives the specifications from a customer and prepares a bid based on the estimated hours and materials to be included in the project. Once the customer accepts the bid, a work ticket is created.
Materials are removed from inventory to complete the project. Laborers perform the required labor and record their labor on timecards.
When the project is complete, a billing clerk prepares the invoice based on the materials and hours recorded on the project. The UA supervising the job authorizes the invoice and it is sent to the customer. Customer payments are made monthly and may include several invoices, but no partial payments are allowed.
