Understanding the critical difference between impairment and disability has been liberating for many company human resource and risk management personnel. Charged with the responsibility of returning permanently impaired employees to work, risk managers now modify work or work settings to accommodate a workers impairments and associated limitations, thereby reducing or totally eliminating disability (Jasen M. W., 1993).
