ur microscope is used to evaluate microscopic cells at low or high magnification. We also use this machine to view other specimens under the microscope, such as parasites (ear mites, dirofilaria, intestinal parasite eggs, etc.). We use the microscope by having an adequate amount of light underneath where the slide is placed (making sure it's not too bright or too dim per slide),placing the readied slide in its proper spot on the microscope, moving the knobs on the sides of the microscope to ensure proper magnification per each person (different eyes, different vision), and using a proper magnification setting (4x,10x,40x). This allows us to evaluate different cells to ensure proper diagnoses. A stage micrometer is used to calibrate our microscope; this is used to ensure the microscope is reading cell size truly. A professional comes in to perform this calibration. The professional reads the stage micrometer at 10x magnification, while using an eyepiece reticule of 10mm in 100 divisions, and a stage micrometer that is 1mm scale length. The scales are evaluated under 10x magnification, aligning the scales overlapping each other. The reticule scale will appear overlapping the scale micrometer exactly, ensuring the microscope is calibrated correctly. To ensure the microscope stays clean, the eye lens, the fields of view lenses, and the microscope plate should be cleaned off with a "kimtech" wipe, and the microscope covershould be placed back over the microscope once someone is done using the machine
