URGENT!! I need help writing this assignment for August 18th. I have chosen to write about Freaks and Geeks.

FTV 270 Television Memo
PART I For this assignment, you should focus on one of the following two cancelled, programs: Cop Rock (ABC, 1990-1991) OR Freaks and Geeks (NBC, 199-2000). Episodes found on dailymotion website, just type in search bar "Freaks and Geeks" and select season 1 ep.1 and season 1 ep. 6.
It is recommended that you watch at least two episodes of the program about which you plan to write. Television shows are cancelled for a variety of reasons, only some of which have anything to do with quality or innovation. Sometimes shows need only a little bit of reworking to find a new audience. Oftentimes, shows are unable to find their audience due to their distribution (network, time of year, time slot, programming strategies, etc.). First, complete the attached worksheet. Submit this worksheet with your typed responses. Then, using the information from class and readings, write a 2-3-page, single-spaced memo to the program's original producer(s) discussing how the series could be remade for contemporary television. Your memo should include discussions of: 1. Why the program's actual distribution did not work. Answer questions such as: When was the show aired (day, time)? How was it scheduled (lead in/lead out/competition on other networks)? 2. Ways that you would change the program to make it relevant for today's audiences. You cannot change the show's genre, but you can make other changes (stars, style). You do not have to do research, but you should be clear about why you're making these changes in terms of attracting a new audience. All these changes must be centered around finding an audience for the series. THIS SHOULD BE NO LONGER THAN ONE SHORT PARAGRAPH! 3. A new distribution strategy that will allow you to find the audience for which your version of the series is designed. Answer questions such as: What platform will it be on (specific broadcast or cable network or streaming service)? What night will the series air? What time? What will be its lead in/lead out? What will it be on against?. If you move the show to an OTT platform you must explain why this specific platform, what time of year you would release it and how you would release it (i.e., all at once or weekly). 4. Why this new distribution strategy would work. Explain the reasoning for all your choices. This needs to be clear. If you suggest a new time slot, explain why it's better and how its competition will be easier to beat; if you suggest a new lead in/out, clarify your reasoning, if you suggest a summer release explain why. Do not discuss the quality of the program. Assume that, since you are writing to the original producer, you will at least pretend that the program is essentially well made even if you are suggesting a few "adjustments."

MEMORANDUM grandy TO: Mindy Kaling, Showrunner FROM: 1 DATE: March.28, 2019 RE: Distribution Strategy-Champions INTRODUCTION After being contacted by Kaling International in regard to last year's release and cancellation of the comedy series Champions we have reviewed the program in depth, focusing primarily on its schedule, network affiliation, and commercial broadcast competition. In this business memo, we will examine past distribution strategies and propose a future distribution plan in order to reshape and return the program to the air. We believe that an improved distribution plan will strive to increase viewership and popularity, securing the program a prominent spot on an established network. ORIGINAL STRATEGY From the start, Champions was put at a disadvantage with a spring time release on March 8th, 2018 with an NBC primetime slot on Thursdays at 9:30 PM Pacific time. At this time, the program was up against several successful shows on competing commercial broadcast networks including ABC's Station 19, the newest addition to the plethora of Shonda Rhimes shows ruling primetime on Thursdays, FOX 's talent competition Showtime at the Apollo, and CBS's family- based sitcom Life in Pieces, Not to mention The CW's superhero drama Arrow, which like all previous shows mentioned targeted the millennial audience of young adults in their 20's and early 30's. This variegated competition spread out throughout the spring lineup resulted in the majority of Champions targeted viewership being split between two or three competing networks. Despite the show's marketability as the creation of Kaling International-a production company known for other dynamic and successful comedies such as The Mindy Show, Champions was left forgotten. Despite the generally positive response to the show, the positivity wasn't reflected in the2 /5 100% + alternative to talent competitions. Furthermore, ABC's Sunday and Monday night American Idol event has trends of decreased viewership on the second day, Monday. Thus, moving Champions to Monday nights at 8:30PM is the perfect opportunity to pick up viewers with the desire to watch TV but disinterest in singing shows by providing a refreshing alternative. CBS's Man With A Plan currently holds the Monday 8:30 PM slot. However, due to the established audience and secured three seasons of the program a slight change in schedule wouldn't be problematic to its viewership. Thus, we suggest moving Man With A Plan to Monday 8:00 PM and utilizing the program as a lead in for Champions. Man With A Plan's 6.3 million viewers in the 18-49 are comprised of young adults drawn to the program due to the former Friends star Matt LeBlanc and the show's quirky comedy. By airing after this program, Champions would ultimately increase viewership due to the similar targeted audiences. To further ensure Champions success on CBS, boosting advertisements during similar programs such as Young Sheldon and Man With A Plan and also moderately saturating the network Tuesday through Sunday would increase interest and awareness. A final strategy occurs online. Due to previous deals with the online streaming service Hulu nut really secured by you, Showrunner Mindy Kaling, advertising a Hulu release of Champions would CBShasits remove Nielsen Rating issues entirely and provide a larger non-live streaming audience. Many ownservice successful comedies have episodes on streaming services and capitalize on binge-watching would the culture in order to create a niche around the show. While Champions is currently on Netflix, an advertised re-release of the program on a separate streaming service would draw attention. Also, this the sale of streaming rights to online platform results in increased revenue in a time that is seeing the decline of advertising prices. Furthermore, as online viewers binge the show, they run out of previously aired episodes to watch, which results in increased live viewing and ultimately a larger viewership. CONCLUSION The new distribution strategy serves to increase viewership of Champions. If enacted, this plan will decrease competition in its time slot and provide the program a strong lead-in show on a hope you're
