Question: Use a CAT 7 3 0 C 2 EJ Articulated Haul Truck ( Tier 4 final / Stage IV / Japan 2 0 1 4

Use a CAT 730C2 EJ Articulated Haul Truck (Tier 4 final/Stage IV/Japan 2014) for this problem. The truck is hauling broken granite on a 3% grade and the haul road rolling resistance is 60 lb/tn. No correction is required for altitude. Use ISO net power. In case youre not familiar with articulated haul trucks; they have six (6) wheels and their all-wheel drive.
Find:
A. Calculate the maximum weight of material the truck can handle for haul. Which
controls: volume or weight of material? Also calculate volume of load in LCY.
B. Calculate the Required Power in lbs for haul and return trip (use equation
method).
C. Calculate Available Power in terms of Rimpull (lbs), speed and gear for haul and return trip (use hand calculations and CAT Rimpull-Speed-Gradeability chart). Turn in chart with marked lines to show how you calculated Rimpull, speed and gear.
D. Are the haul and return speeds reasonable and why? If not, what is a reasonable
speed?
E. The haul road has good traction wet or dry. However, during the winter months the haul road is covered in packed snow and/or ice. Does the truck have enough traction hauling loaded and returning empty for snow and ice conditions only? Calculate all
four (4) scenarios and state yes or no for each; 1) Haul snow, 2) Return Snow, 3) Haul ice, 4) Return ice. If the front wheel drive was out of service, would the truck have enough traction to make the haul only in snow and ice? Two more scenarios for a total of 6 calculations; 5) Haul snow w/ front drive out, 6) Haul ice w/ front drive out.
