Use the fields package to produce the inter-site distance matrix for the locations in the scallops data. Compute this matrix using the rdist.earth function, which yields the geodetic distances. Next project the data to UTM coordinates and use the rdist function to compute the inter-site Euclidean distance matrix. Draw histograms of the inter-site distances and comment on any notable discrepancies resulting from the map projection.
