• The Problem Statement section can be found in Section 1 in a DSW capstone project and Chapter 1 in a PhD dissertation. The Problem Statement consists of paragraphs that tells a story of what the gap is in practice for a DSW capstone project or what the gap is in the knowledge base for a PhD dissertation. This gap is called the research problem.
• In the first two paragraphs, researchers must synthesize what is already known and then in the last paragraph, students must explicitly state what still needs to be addressed (i.e., the research problem).
