Question: Using digital literacy in an ECE classroom is important for helping children develop their digital skills, supporting diverse learners, such as those who cannot communicate

Using digital literacy in an ECE classroom is important for helping children develop their digital skills, supporting diverse learners, such as those who cannot communicate with words, and teaching children how to take care of electronics at an early age. I have found that there are both pros and cons to using digital technology in education. Some of the pros are that children seem more engaged and motivated when using iPads to read digital stories, and they can use tablets to better express their needs and wants. One of the main cons I have noticed is that children may not pay attention when the teacher is talking because they are too focused on their tablets or computers. To include digital technology in my future teaching, I would use audiobooks with text, literacy games like Kahoot!, and speech-to-text features to help children start writing. I would have iPads and laptops in my classroom but limit screen time, maybe during an hour-long center time. A very important rule for using electronics is making sure children are always supervised and that they cannot access any non-educational sites to keep them safe
