The process is to be monitored with x and R charts based on samples of 50 cans randomly selected each day for 20 consecutive days of production. What are x and R charts, and what do x-bar-bar, R-bar, UCL, and LCL denote?

Monitoring Tablet Hardness. In Exercises 4-6, use the following information: A pharmaceutical manufacturer forms tablets by compressing a granular material that contains the active ingredients and various fillers. The hardness of the sample tablets a measured in kilograms for a pharmaceuticla product. The results are listed in the accompanying table.

Tablet Hardness: Notation - Find the mean and range of each sample. After finding the value for the mean and range of each sample, find the values of x and R . Also find the values of LCL and UCL for an R chart, and find the values of LCL and UCL for an x chart.
