Rebuild Kensington Complex Ice Rink and Swimming Pool

The CG Brown indoor swimming pool and the Copeland Ice Arena were both built a number of years ago

and are in deteriorating condition. Although the ice rink may have a few years of use left the City of

Burnaby has elected to replace both structures at the same time. The City has made it very clear that

the same contractor CANNOT do the work on both structures.

Details:

Construct a new ice arena, approximately 25% larger than current size

Construct a new swimming pool, also 25% larger than current size

Construct a new multilevel parkade to serve both facilities

Set up a electronic bookings system to transfer staff and users of both facilities to switch to

other locations while construction is underway

Upgrade Kensington Avenue and adjacent roadways with sidewalks, turning lanes and improved

traffic management systems

Construct an overhead pedestrian bridge over Kensington Avenue to link the complex with the

Fortius building across the street

Undertake awareness campaign to advise all key stakeholders and recreation users

Project Management

Your project plan will allow the City of Burnaby to greatly expand its recreation facilities.

Truck Tunnel Knight Street

Due to heavy truck traffic congestion the City of Vancouver has proposed a project to build a tunnel

under Knight street to allow trucks easy and quick access between Richmond and downtown Vancouver

docks. Tunnel is restricted to trucks only and will be heavily policed at both entrance points to ensure no

passenger vehicles use this.

Details:

Tunnel begins at 62 Avenue tunnel will be mostly level all the way to Vancouver

Cars and trucks can still travel north on Knight Street

5 lanes -2 each way and one emergency/maintenance- only lane. Directional lanes are separated

Tunnel exits at Vernon Drive right under the 1

st

Avenue and Clark intersection then connects to

Clark drive at Grant Street

Deliverables:

Demolish apartments/homes along Knight Street between Marine drive and 63rd Avenue

Construct tunnel from 63

rd

Avenue to Vernon Drive

Install signage and lighting within the tunnel and roadways

Create emergency access and ventilation portals along the route you decide where but must be

a minimum of 10 portals.

Create an emergency plan to deal with accidents that might occur in the tunnel including 24/7

tow trucks stationed at either end

Road intersection upgrades around tunnel entrances. Knight street will remain as is along the

route and be available to commercial and passenger vehicles

Conduct awareness campaign to advise commuters and provide weekly updates during

construction

Project Management

This tunnel is part of the overall Port Metro Vancouver plans to ease the flow of goods between port

facilities and business warehouses and commercial facilities.
