Using Putty(UNIX), in this question we have the files in one directory: intro, notea, noteb, notex, ref1, ref2, ref3, section1, section2, section3, section4x, section4y, and section4z.

I'm trying to find a way to delete all the files using wild card characters, without using -r option or rm *. My guess was rm -f *, I don't know how different that is from rm *, in terms of being less dangerous, and I'm looking to see if anyone has a better way.
