Paul McCay posted Jun 5, 2025 1:17 PM w Subscribe Hello everyone, my name is Paul McCay. | am a 39-year-old army veteran. | am an animal lover, music lover, and all-around lover of all things in nature. | have been teaching ina 7th grade classroom these past two years and | am now going to be teaching 6th grade in a self-contained classroom at a new location, but for the same district. | look forward to my new assignment and meeting my new students. My beliefs on how students learn math is like how students might learn a new language. Much like language, math has its own rules. There are countless ways for people to apply and learn different mathematical standards, but | have found the hard part is keeping students engaged with the \"why\" these skills are important. In my own experiences in learning math, | mainly remember struggling to remember all the different formulas, and to what problems they are to be applied. | kept a notebook with all my tips and trick, but if the test was not open book or notes allowed; | was sure to struggle. Linkedin Profile (needs to be updated) https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-mccay- 95bb23203/ Turning 40 this year, it is hard to remember when | had an \"aha\" moment when learning a math concept when | was in school. With that said, | can without shame state that | have had numerous eye-opening moments these past two years while learning from the teachers around me. One teacher in the classroom next door to me was tutoring me for some time while | was working on passing the CSETS. If it was not for this person simplifying and showing some of my misconceptions | would not be where | am today
