Using the information from the "The Stanford Prison Experiment" and the videos/information below, write an argument paper that discusses conformity and nonconformity as a social phenomenon (and a particular manifestation of obedience togroup authority) in some particular area. For example, you may choose to study conformity as it exists among schoolchildren, adolescent peer groups, social clubs or associations, business people, workplace settings (as in the mock prison).
- What are the main factors creatingthe urge to conform among the particular group you are examining? What kinds of forces may be able to counteract conformity?
Make sure you discuss "The Stanford Prison Experiment" in the paper. That experiment is the reason for the discussion. You could just mention if you decide to use some of the other experiments listed below: Asch, Milgram, Bystander Effect.
Please do not discuss whether this experiment, or any of the others, are morally correct.
