Using the study below (Ferretti et al. (2019)) to answer the following questions about correlation.
Ferretti, N., Ganley, C. M., & Kofler, M. J. (2019). Predicting children's school grades: Unique and interactive effects of parental beliefs and child inattention/hyperactivity symptoms. British Journal of Developmental Psychology, 37,300-307.
This study examined the relationship between parent's beliefs about school involvement and children's inattention/hyperactivity symptoms in a sample of 348 parents of 8 to 12-year-old children. About half of the parents were fathers (52%) and almost all were Caucasian (83.6%). All variables in this study were measured via self-report surveys completed by parents. The authors hypothesized that "more inattention/hyperactivity symptoms and less positive parental beliefs would be associated with lower academic achievement" (p. 301).
1. Are the authors' hypotheses supported? What is a statement that can be used to report the results of their hypotheses. Make sure to include whether or not to reject the null hypothesis.
2. Assess the validity of these 2 association claims. In your assessment you should address all three validities important for association claims (construct, external, statistical).
