Across this course you have been learning about a variety of assessment procedures within Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The final project for SPCE 610 is to complete a Functional Assessment Summary Report based on mock assessment protocols you complete throughout the course. Assignment 2 (this recorded FAI interview) will assist you in your mock functional behavior assessment (FBA) and will become a portion of your final project. The previous readings have provided information and insight into the processes of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and interviewing. In this assignment, you will conduct and record a mock open-ended FAI. Information gleaned in the interview will contribute to your final project later in the semester. You're encouraged to save the assignment and prepare to implement feedback.

A sample and brief discussion related to this assignment were previously discussed in the course (see video above).

• First, ensure you scheduled a meeting, outlined a recording method (e.g., Zoom; Panopto), and prepared the interviewee. To prepare your interviewee consider the following:
  • They have a meeting link and you are all talking about the same time zones.
  • You provided them a brief history of the person served (the same client from Assignment 1).
  • The interviewee is aware of what role they are playing in the interview.
• You do NOT need to give them predetermined answers, part of the fun is that they will provide novel information for you to review as part of your mock assessment. If you haven't had the chance to complete an FAI in practice, this is an excellent role-play opportunity.
• Next, start your video, select the desired location to save the recording, and ensure your camera is on.
  • Students need to display themselves in a way that instructors can view their facial expression in the recording.
  • Introduce yourself.
  • Report the tasks you completed before the interview (e.g., reviewed IEP, annual social assessment, diagnostic information, etc.).
  • Note DEI considerations prior to the interview starting.
• The volunteer you selected is not required to have their camera on.
• Use the Open-Ended FAI form Download FAI formprovided to guide your questions during the interview. At the end of the interview you should have a completely filled out FAI. This will later be summarized in your final project.
• After your recording is done, watch your interview and complete the provided FAI Checklist & Self-Reflection Download FAI Checklist & Self-Reflection. You should include: one area you may have struggled, one area where you did well, and at least one thing you could improve on.
• You will submit two items for this assignment:
  • Panopto Video
  • A completed FAI Checklist & Self-Reflection document.
