Learning from other allows a leader to improve on their strengths and weaknesses. Observing a leader allows you pick up good habits and bad. For example, watching how a leader speaks and engages with his or hers employees. Does the person speak aggressive or soft spoken? As a leader, you cannot speak to all individuals the same. 10 percent stretch or taking risks and going passed there comfort zone allows the leader to expand there skill set and improve the operation. Keeping a journal Having development plan and receiving feed back allow the leader to set course for their career and the operation. Receiving feedback allows the leader to improve on a skill set or gather a new skill. Many people find it difficult to receive feed back, but feed back helps to build your skills and opportunity for growth.
I can improve on seeking more experiences at my current position. For example, I have been asking my manager to give some of his responsibilities so that I can gather new skills. I can improve on handling situations differently. For example, not to use the same decision for all scenarios. Receiving feed back from higher band leaders has been improving my presentation skills, quality of work and how to deal with different situations. I begin to take some risks for example, bring up ideas and plans that maybe unreasonable, but explaining how it can work.
