We do not have a final project for this course, so this problem will serve as a "mini-project." Optimization problems are everywhere: managing your time and finances, building a bookshelf, planning a trip, organizing a paper delivery route to travel the least distance, making a fortune in the stock market, reducing waste, picking the optimum fantasy football team, designing a diet, ... I would like for you to come up with an optimization problem that is interesting to you or relevant to your work. (a) Define the problem. (b) Carefully set up the problem and concisely describe the optimization problem. (Using 5-step method and summarizing the mathematical statement of the optimization problem)(c) Solve the problem using whatever technique you find most appropriate. Try to be original, but don't create a problem so difficult that it will take you an enormous amount of time to describe, set up, and solve.
