We encounter law everywhere, all the time. Through these encounters, we come to learn about the law indirectly. Scholars often refer to this process as legal socialization. (a) What is the process by which we go through legal socialization? That is, what are the sources of information we receive about the law, and how do we come to internalize these messages? (b) A related aspect is the ways in law is ineluctably linked to the legal imagery that pervades our society. In what ways does legal imagery influence our views of the law? Provide at least two unique examples (not ones we discussed in class) to support your points. Be sure to explain your examples thoroughly. (c) Finally, how do the process of legal socialization and our legal imagery relate to Americas love-hate relationship with the law? Make use of course texts to describe what this love-hate relationship is, and explain how it relates to both legal socialization and legal imagery.
