How Do Managers Decide Who To Recruit?
When recruiting employees, Sara Hatab, the IT manager of a leading company in Qatar, places lots of emphasis on an applicants attitude. She wants employees with a learning mind-set and an eye for excellence. While interviewing, she pays a lot of attention to small details. She observes the applicants body language and how he or she responds to tough questions which she sometimes asks. She reads the curriculum vitae thoroughly and asks about specific details that she feels are relevant to the job. She likes to recruit people from all backgrounds as this ensures that her team is always diverse. Diversity, she believes, is important for optimum performance. She always takes the applicants grades into consideration, as they are often a sign of seriousness, persistence, and maturity. She has just finished interviewing Kamal who was extremely impressive during the interview. He was confident, serious, and displayed an excellent attitude. In addition, he answered correctly almost all of the technical questions she asked. But Kamal has a problem. His university grades are lower than all other candidates applying to the same position.
