Week 13 Written Assignment
Each week, I'll ask you to answer a few questions in writing. You can answer these either on paper or type your answers up.(The Google doc is linked on Canvas, and you can make a copy and type your answers there, or just create your own document and write your answers.)
Try to give answers to these questions that are as full as possible: really show your understanding, rather than just telling me the answers. Imagine that I'm interviewing you for a job where you'll really need to fully understand how to answer questions like these: explain or show how you're approaching the question, in a way that makes me confident your correct answers aren't just flukes.
You'll be able to work on these throughout the week-they'll go roughly in the same order that we cover content during the week, so that you can work on a question or two each day.
Do all the steps for a full hypothesis test of the example from activity 13.1: Workers at a large workplace (27,000 workers) formed a union several years ago. At the time, 57% of workers supported forming the union. (During union formation, there's usually a union election where workers vote on whether to form a union.)
It's been a few years now, and the union has done stuff: elected leadership, run some campaigns, had a strike, bargained a contract, etc. We want to see if support for the union has changed from its 57% level.
As usual, the tool you have available is to pick a random worker and ask them if they support the union. Sample as many workers as you need to in order to be confident of the answer to the question: is support for the union more or less than 57%?
Use the poll results we got from class! If you didn't write them down, you can instead use these as a backup: Jason asked 100 workers and 62 of them said they supported the union.
