Chris Killough (Student 1): Good afternoon class,

TQM can be defined as a business strategy, that is designed to improve the quality of the company or organizations products and services. this strategy is based of continuous improvement and it encourages the uses to think about every decision and action and gear it towards continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. The overall goal of TQM is to identify and correct problems as quickly and effectively as possible.

The company I have chosen for this discussion is the company I am currently working for, it is a utility service company. ( railroad maintenance, vegetation maintenance, and emergency road construction.) The first step in implementing TQM is to evaluate the current processes and services. in this evaluation I would focus on the quality of working try to figure out where I could make improvements. After the evaluation is complete, I would then begin to create plan for implements TQM principles. this plan would have a list of goals that our company needs to reach in order for the highest level of quality we can achieve. I would also outline the changes that need to take place, and ways to monitor the progress of how the goals are being achieved.

Caleb John (Student 2):

In your discussion post, after reviewing the total quality management (TQM) concepts from your readings this week, explain how you would apply them to either your organization or an organization of your choosing. How would the organization change as a result of applying these TQM concepts? TQM is a management approach to the long term success through the satisfaction from customers. At Southwire, this is a team effort. This is accomplished by everyone always in the works of improving products, processes utilized, services, and the work environment they are apart of. "The term total quality management was developed by the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command to describe its Japanese style approach to quality improvement that is based on participation of all members of an organization in improving goods, services , and the organizational culture." (Evans and Lindsay, 2020) At southwire we apply a lot of TQM in the work environment. We are customer focused as this is the driving force in how well our products are produced/shipped out. Next is employee involvement, which is how we have all employees working towards the same goal by giving them a voice. Systematic approach is next as this helps us define goals, visions, and the company mission. Lastly we are always continuing the process of improvement to everything we do. This allows us to be quicker, more competitive, more effective, and even offer better pricing.
