Week Three Part Two: Developing Teams (Chapters 3, 4, and 5)

Chapters 3, 4, and 5 discuss ways to develop effective teams. In chapter four, you learned that the team leader has three overall tasks to perform to create an effective work team:

Create the conditions that enable the team to do its job by ensuring the team has a clear task to perform and has the resources to do the work.

Build and maintain the team as a performing unit by ensuring the team is composed of members with the right skills and abilities.

Coach and support the team to success by giving direction and support.

In thinking about the teams you have served, describe one situation and how the leader of that team successfully completed these three tasks (or some of them). If the leader was unsuccessful in completing these three tasks, describe what you think they should have done differently.

If you were the leader of the team, describe the tasks you completed successfully and what you should have done differently on the tasks that were not successful.
