We ask that you create a Research/ Case Study Report from the Beaus All-Natural Brewing Company Appendix A case study found at page 547of the Wiley course text.
This report will require to investigate, report, and respond to three questions: what, so what and now what. Your research and conclusions will contribute to a larger understanding of local business in your community. You will demonstrate an understanding of the challenges of growing a sustainable enterprise. In the final part of this assignment, you will need imagine yourself as the majority shareholder of this enterprise.
Part One: Local Connections (what/so what).
In part one of your report, you will use online and website sources to research and report on two owner operated companies who create and sell products in your home community/region.
The purpose of the local connections section of this assignment is to introduce yourself to the owner operated businesses in your community.
To begin your search, you may want to visit your local community Chamber of Commerce website to identify small business in your community/region that look interesting or unique. These might include:
Traditional manufacturing businesses who market their products using a storefront location,
Businesses that create a product but wholesale to retail businesses and/or,
Businesses that make something but market exclusively online.
The key here is to find businesses that sell a product that is created in your community.
International students will concentrate their research on companies from the Peterborough Region.
Each company profile will be 1 to 2 pages in length. Each profile will isolate what makes this enterprise unique in your community.
Each company profile will be APA formatted.
You may want to include visual images and graphics in the local connections profile. If you use visual images this information will be included as appendix documents and will not be counted in the page count.
To start your research process, you will need some general orientation on what it means to be in business.
I suggest you listen to two podcasts:
Wisdom from the Top: Graeters Ice Cream found on National Public Radio.
Wisdom from the Top: Base Camp: Jason Fried found on National Public Radio.
Each of these interviews touches on concepts and processes that we have discussed in lecture, seminar and in the weekly readings. Listen to them and perhaps revisit them as you assess Beaus All-Natural Brewer.
As you search for companies to profile you might want to visit the following company websites.
Chapmans Ice Cream of Markdale Ontario.
The MacKinnon Brothers Brewery in Bath Ontario.
LivSimple Farms of Enterprise Ontario.
Springwater Woodcraft of Minesing Ontario.
Each of these companies will provide you with a sample of a company website that may be helpful as you search for online information and company websites in your own community.
Part Two: Case Study (what/so what)
We ask that you create a Research/ Case study report from the Beaus All-Natural Brewing Company Appendix A case study found at page 547of the Wiley course text.
Answer all the questions related to the case study as presented in the text in part 1.
Answer all the questions related to the case study as presented in the text in part 2.
Answer all the questions related to the case study as presented in the text in part 3.
Answer question 2 of part 4 of the case study.
Answer all the questions related to the case study as presented in the text in part 5.
Answer question 1 of part 6 of the case study.
Part Three: SWOT Analysis (what/so what)
Complete/Create a SWOT analysis for Beaus All-natural Brewing company.
Include 1 to 2 factors for each component, (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat).
Explain how each reasoning fits under each category. Your analysis must be in full sentences. Choose the format that best presents your analysis, prose, or chart.
Part Four: Conclusions: (now what)
In the final stage of this Case Study analysis, we ask you imagine yourself as the majority shareholder of this enterprise. As majority shareholder you have a responsibility to be the most self-aware person connected to the enterprise. The focus of your work in part 4 is focussed on now what?
What is in the best interest of the stakeholders?
What is in the best interest of the shareholders?
What has this process and this company told you about your assumptions, attitudes, and values?
In your view, what are the next steps for this business?
