Ethical practices have a huge impact on the organization because it motivates a work environment that base decision-making on moral standards. Ethics improve the individuals accountability and transparency in any attempt during business decisions. It allows for equality in the workplace and avoids biased tactics. An ethical work culture that is recognized by the followers could enhance job satisfaction, employee retention, staff performance, and employees loyalty increasing enhancing productivity and yielding positive results for the organization. Leadership has to ensure that moral guidelines are at the core of its organizations leadership for successful results when leading a team. According to Northouse (2018), The principles that support the advancement of reliable ethical leadership are respect, service, justice, honesty, and community. The respect element involves leaders encouraging the followers to be innovative regarding their desires, displaying confidence in their ideas, training employees to be cognizant of their needs, standards, and intentions while embracing the leaders desires, ethics, and expectations. Respect is also leaders listening with an open mind showing compassion and sensitivity assisting followers to feel valued and confident in completing assignments. Highlighted in Northouse (2018) In the work environment, leaders who serve are altruistic meaning that the security of their followers is a priority and can be perceived through the leaders actions inclusive of mentorship, empowerment practices, team building, and citizenship behavior. Ethical leaders integrity and civility are a prime concern pertaining to employees equality in the workplace. Justice dictates that leaders position honor in the midst of decision-making processes refraining leaders from indulging in favoritism activities unless it is called for and then it must be based on ethical practices. Honesty is an important linkage to fosters trust and loyalty between leaders and followers. A leaders honesty is a sign of their authenticity, reliability, being committed, and competence of being an effective leader. Followers will fail to respect or trust leaders whose leadership style is not supported by their image. Ethical leaders building a community involves discovering goals that are appropriate for the entire team with the attention and focus on the organization and its practices. Northouse (2018) maintained that it is necessary for leaders and followers to look beyond their individual wants and needs and embrace the communitys goals and expectations. In my opinion, two of the five principles that are most essential are respect and honesty. A leader exhibiting respect to the employees display confidence that the staff is capable of achieving assigned tasks and the followers can maintain a level of individual efficiency about the delegated assignment. It is important that employees sustain self-confidence regarding duties in an effort to enhance job performance ultimately increasing productivity. Honesty is one of the most appreciated features of ethical leadership because it communicates trust and high morals. Followers perceive leaderships honesty as a leader that is transparent and trustworthy having the staffs best interest in mind. A specific example from my professional experience is my director respecting my skills and capabilities giving me the opportunity to oversee the operational duties of the psychiatry emergency department. This behavior provides a sense of appreciation and self-confidence knowing that I am trusted to delegate tasks ensuring that they are achieved appropriately. Self-confidence boosts my belief in my abilities, skills, and experience.
