Family Ties An employee relations manager started working at a large retail company in an entry-level position over ten years ago. She has family members who work for the same company and has also developed many friendships. Now that she is in an HR/labor relations position, these connections can create an ethical dilemma. One of the responsibilities of an employee relations manager is to assist with the announcement and placement process when there is a store closure. Informed of a planned closure, the manager realizes that a family member works at the store. She spends the next sleepless night worrying about doing the right thing. She decides to disclose the situation to her boss. She says that she knows she cant warn the family member of the closing, but she is worried about the effect on her close-knit family when they find out she has not warned her relative.
