This problem still exists today although technology has gotten stronger; for example, people used to be able to open a phone with a picture of someone. Strong biometric scanners are a significant cost and good algorithms are needed to perform comparisons to stored biometrics. Additionally, storing biometric information poses security concerns and brings up issues of over-invasion of people's privacy.
