Assignment Overview

An introduction is the first paragraph/section of an essay, and it plays an important role in writing an effective paper. The introductionallows the writer to begin the essay by gaining readers' attention, providing necessary background information, and by establishing the essay's main idea, purpose, and direction. Without an introduction, you can leave your reader feeling confused. Rememeber that a good introduction paragraph has three components:

1- Hook (to attract the attention of the reader)

2- Bridge (to combine your hook with the thesis)

3- Thesis statement (to state your claim and 3 reasons to support this claim)
